Supervision style: My supervision style is rooted in reflective, trauma-informed, and psychodynamic practice, with a strong emphasis on cultural humility, embodiment, and ethical integrity. I approach supervision as a co-created relational space where clinicians can explore the complexities of their work with both depth and safety.
At the heart of my approach is the belief that supervision should not only support clinical growth but also nurture the whole person behind the therapist role. I prioritize emotional safety, somatic awareness, and collaborative learning over hierarchical correction.
My supervision is dialogical, respectful of each supervisee’s lived experience, and responsive to the power dynamics and systemic issues that often show up in therapeutic relationships.
Supervisor: Trevor Birrell

Cohort will start early 2026
Bio: Trevor Birrell is a Registered Psychotherapist who trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Ontario Psychotherapy and Counseling program in Toronto. Trevor’s thesis was on expressive arts therapy for the preoccupied client. Trevor brings years of experience in education counselling to his therapeutic work with children, teenagers, and adults. Trevor completed a 30-hour Foundations of Clinical Supervision course at the University of Ottawa.
Trevor has a rich history in the arts and in storytelling. He earned a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Broadcast Journalism from Toronto Metropolitan (formerly Ryerson) University and a Bachelor of Education in Intermediate/Senior Dramatic Arts and English from OISE/U of T. Telling your story through the arts can help you make sense of your past and consider ways to change your story for the future.
Supervisor style/approach: We will co-create the goals of our work together. Ideally supervision should honour the expert in the supervisor and the supervisee. I welcome your insights and your learnings and hope that mine will enrich your life and your practice.
Trevor integrates his personal and professional experience with the 2SLGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent communities into his supervision sessions. While maintaining a focus on psychodynamic psychotherapy concepts and interventions, Trevor can ehance supervisee learning in the following complimentary modalities: Attachment Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Couples’ IMAGO Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, Humanistic Therapy (Person-Centered), Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness, Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy, and Psychodrama.
Supervisor: Caroline Mardon

Bio: I have been a private practice psychotherapist in Toronto since 1995 and have trained psychotherapists since 2006 as co-founder and Clinical Director of the Living Institute. and have around 13 years experience doing individual and group supervision there.
I’m currently on faculty at the Adler Graduate Professional School in their new Psychotherapy Concentration MPsy which I helped to design and where I teach three courses: Comparative Psychotherapy, Interviewing Skills and Pre Practicum Clinical Skills Integration.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy posits that there is a hidden variable (the ‘unconscious’) which affects our everyday conscious thoughts, feelings, emotions, imagination, intentions, motivations and behaviour. It may be unrecognized or in conflict with our everyday conscious sense of self. This can manifest as symptoms, attitudes, physical symptoms etc. Making this content conscious and resolving the inner conflicts can lead to alleviation of symptoms and increased sense of well-being.
Integrative psychotherapy combines different therapeutic orientations and approaches. It modifies standard treatments to respond to the individual needs of the client. What is most effective for this individual with this problem at this time under this set of circumstances? Integrative approaches combine elements drawn from different schools of psychotherapeutic theory and research. integrative therapy is a more flexible and inclusive approach to treatment than more traditional, singular forms of psychotherapy.
Whatever your training or background, you are welcome to share your perspective in this supervision group.
Supervisor style/approach: I’ve been a supervisor since 2009. My experience since 1991 has been in private practice for adults, providing individual, couples and group therapy.
I integrate client centered, humanistic, existential and psychodynamic theories and methodologies with Jungian/archetypal, transpersonal and somatic therapeutic approaches. I include perspectives and sensitivities from feminism, neuroscience and multiculturalism. My clinical perspective is also emotion and attachment centered, trauma-informed and somatically oriented.
I see group supervision is an interactive, creative and collaborative process intended to monitor the quality and well-being of client care, discuss the direction of therapy, improve clinical skills, facilitate professional growth, and enhance the supervisee’s safe and effective use of self.
Dates and time: Due to low response, the summer cohort has been cancelled. If you would like to join a session, please add your name to the waiting list to join other cohorts.
