Once you’ve found a therapist, you will likely work with them over a series of one-on-one sessions. Sessions take place at your therapist’s office in person, but virtual or phone sessions may also be an option.
During your first meeting, you and your therapist will explore what brings you to therapy. Don’t worry if you don’t have a concise answer, part of the work in therapy is to explore this very question. You may find that the questions that are important to you will change over time.
Your therapist will work with you to explore your concerns by using one or a combination of therapeutic approaches. These approaches will vary depending on your needs and the background of the therapist you choose. Therapeutic approaches could include everything from talk therapy to experiential therapy, incorporating modalities such as art therapy, bodywork, sandplay or hypnosis. The increased self-awareness gained through therapy can enhance your sense of balance and feelings of well being in your life.
