The College of Licensed Counselling Therapists of New Brunswick (CCTNB) has no jurisdiction on where a client seeks support. It is between the client, counsellor, and insurances.

Practitioners need only remind clients that in the event of any concerns they would reach out to their regulatory/governing body, if any.

Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT)

For telecounselling, NSCCT interprets “service delivery” or “practice” as occurring in the jurisdiction where the counselling therapist is registered.

Accordingly, counselling therapists/psychotherapists registered and licensed to practice by a regulator elsewhere in Canada are permitted to deliver telecounselling services to clients in Nova Scotia without requirement to register with NSCCT.

College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)

CRPO does not require practitioners in other jurisdictions to register for work with clients in Ontario, if:

• The therapist does not intend to advertise or otherwise promote their services in Ontario; and
• Ontario-based clients do not form a substantial proportion of the therapist’s workload

If any of these factors changed, CRPO would reconsider if the therapist should apply for registration.

College of Counselling Therapy PEI (CCTPEI)

Counselling therapists from other provinces who want to work with clients in Prince Edward Island (PEI) through telepractice may practice in PEI without CCTPEI registration if they meet the following criteria:

• They do not advertise services in PEI
• They serve a maximum of three PEI clients at any time
• PEI clients make up less than 20% of their total client base

Practitioners who wish to exceed these limits must register with the CCTPEI. Options include full or provisional registration, Labour Mobility Transfer, or Special Registration for short-term work. Non-registrants must inform clients about complaint procedures and the limitations of CCTPEI oversight.

Order of Psychologists of Quebec (OPQ)

Quebec’s legislation allows psychologists and psychotherapists to provide psychological services through electronic means to patients residing in Quebec. Therapists must remain active as a regulated professional licensee and remain insured for liability.

Clients must be informed that they can address complaints to the relevant regulatory College rather than the Order of Psychologists of Quebec. If therapy is provided in-person in Quebec, the practitioner must be licensed in Quebec.
