The Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy® (EFCT) Externship is an immersive 24-hour training designed for therapists seeking to deepen their ability to work effectively with couples to bring about long lasting change. This externship serves as the core training within the couples stream of EFT.
Facilitated by Dr. Senem Zeytinoglu and Robin Williams Blake, RP, this training offers a comprehensive introduction to the EFCT model—emphasizing the science of attachment and a systematic, experiential approach to helping partners reconnect and heal.
This externship is the foundational step in the EFT certification process, providing the essential knowledge and skills to cultivate secure and resilient bonds in therapy. It lays the groundwork for advanced practice, helping therapists grow in confidence, clarity, and effectiveness in their clinical work with couples.
You will learn a clear, step-by-step framework that helps you know what to do when emotions rise and communication breaks down. You’ll discover how to slow down conflict, tune in to what’s happening underneath the words, and guide partners toward sharing their deeper feelings and needs in a way that invites healing and closeness.
You’ll gain a practical roadmap! A way of seeing and working with emotion that helps couples move from defensiveness to understanding, from distance to safety. These are the same in-the-moment skills and larger guiding moves that EFT therapists use to create deep, lasting change in their clients.
Grounded in more than 30 years of research, this approach provides tools that are both structured and deeply human—helping you bring meaningful transformation to the couples, individuals, and families you support.
But beyond skill and structure, this training speaks to the heart of the therapist who longs to do good, deep work—to help couples reach the emotional roots of their pain and rediscover the love that still lives beneath it.
Senem and Robin create a safe, engaging learning space where curiosity, compassion, and courage meet. You’ll learn to see beyond reactivity to the tender longings that shape every relationship, and to guide partners through moments of disconnection toward healing and reconnection.
