Sometimes, we surprise ourselves when we realize that we know ourselves less than we thought we did. Psychotherapy allows us to find our own language and open up unforeseen new meanings, which allow us to rewrite our story. Come to see me, let's talk.

TrainingATPPP (c), Lacanian Psychoanalysis, Psychodrama. Operative Groups.
As a therapist who takes a Lacanian psychoanalytical approach, I work to direct the treatment in a way that leads you to look closely at the issues that really matter to you. In order to help you develop greater insight into your true desire, I will encourage you to examine your thoughts, feelings and acts honestly and free from any pre-established ideas. This awareness facilitates the discovery of productive ways of addressing and improving your life, by figuring out how you make your choices and live with them.
In my private practice located in Toronto, ON, Canada, I listen carefully and non-judgmentally to the young adults, adults, and seniors with whom I work. People dealing with life transition issues and difficulties with identity, personal and professional choices and relationships can benefit from psychoanalytic treatment.
How I can help you
The long-term and deep changes that this therapeutic approach fosters may be very helpful for those struggling with situations such as settlement, immigration, separations, losses, recovery after an acute illness event, or difficulties making significant changes in personal or professional life that may have led to depression, anxiety or eating problems. However, it is fundamental to keep in mind that the treatment does not focus on conditions or symptoms, but on how a person experiences these difficulties, and articulates ways of managing them that fit with his or her style.
How we start the treatment
The decision of starting therapy is made after you complete an initial assessment process. This process involves a first interview, followed by one or two other encounters in which the client and I determine if psychoanalytic therapy seems a good fit. My fluency in both English and Portuguese enables me to work with clients in either language. You can schedule your first interview either by phone or by e-mail. During the assessment, we will also discuss my fees, since my services are not covered by OHIP. Please consult your private health insurance to verify if they offer any coverage for part of the treatment. Both locations offer ample available parking and as easy access via subway, bus and street car.
In addition to my private practice in Toronto, I hold a teaching position at the Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto. In addition to my extensive clinical experience and education in Brazil, I have graduated from the Advanced Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program (ATPPP) offered by the Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis in partnership with the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto.
I am an Affiliate Member of the Toronto Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (https://torontopsychoanalysis.com), a member of the Lacan.Toronto-a working group (https://lacantoronto.ca), and participate in some teaching activities of Initiative-Toronto linked to the New Lacanian School (NLS).
Relevant experience and training that I bring to your psychoanalytic treatment includes my personal analysis both in Brazil and Canada with Lacanian psychoanalysts, and training acquired through years of participation in Lacanian reading groups, seminars and conferences. In 1994, I completed a PhD in Mental Health in the Department of Psychiatry of the State University of Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil. For over twenty years, as a Registered Nurse and Associate Professor in this institution, I offered psychoanalytic therapy to people living with psychosis, neurosis and depression. I also provided clinical supervision to nursing students and other health care professionals in their clinical placements, and served as project consultant for mental health institutions.
