In my practice I provide:
Psychotherapy: People who come to see me usually have already tried very hard to understand themselves and to change on their own. Often they have tried another kind of therapy, maybe CBT or EFT, or counseling for bereavement or some kind of problem. Open ended psychotherapy allows people to identify and work through difficulties that have compromised their professional lives and threatened their personal lives. If we decide to work together, the therapy is specifically addressed to you, to your particular situation and your individual needs. We will focus on your strengths and vulnerabilities around the difficulties so that you can live more fully – its talk therapy focused on your struggles and your personality as a whole.
Consultation on Giftedness and Psychotherapy: Recently I was involved in research and writing about the intersection of intellectual exceptionality and child development, and the impact of giftedness on personality and psychotherapy. I have worked with a number of adults who are artistically talented or intellectually gifted, and consulted with parents of children who have been assessed as gifted or talented.
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Techniques: Panic attacks, some insomnia, and concentration difficulties can be moderated through breath control and meditation techniques.
Psychotherapy Assessment: Assessment of the person's needs, their strengths and weaknesses, and their personality is a crucial and often overlooked first step. In the course of talking about what is happening in your life and in your mind in the first sessions I am gathering information about you and will speak with you about different kinds of therapy and approaches.
Personal Psychoanalysis: I am a candidate in psychoanalytic training at the Toronto Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis and can offer psychoanalysis to individuals under supervision.
Referral: Good psychotherapy cannot be one size fits all! I might not be an easy person for you to talk to, or you might be better suited to another approach. If a referral to another therapist or a suggestion for a different kind of treatment is indicated for you I am happy to provide you with help to find the right practitioner and/or the right approach.

FeesI work from a base fee of $135 adjusting up or down based on income and frequency of sessions.
TrainingMaster of Eduction [Counselling Psycholgy], Internship and Residency - Toronto Institute of Human Relations. I attend conferences annually and participate in ongoing peer study groups and supervision groups. One of the things I love about this work is that the field is developing in such interesting directions that new learning is really necessary every year.
Theoretical BackgroundI did my early training in the Interpersonal Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic tradition and my academic preparation in a program with a critical theory orientation [psychology of women, social and cultural perspectives]. I developed my approach to reflect developments in intersubjectivity, mindfulness and field theory.
