About Me and My Work
I have always had a healthy curiosity and interest in the human condition and its diverse aspects. I care about life, about people, about our planet. I have always looked for ways to heal myself in body, mind and soul and to free myself from suffering and from fear, from their many forms and contexts. My main interest has been in applicable knowledge and health sciences.
I love ideas and sharing them and I also love efficiency and practicality - a more useful and helpful approach to living life: do what it takes to make things work. This being said, there are moments in life when one can feel so down, so low that just to make it to the next day may feel like a very long journey. My message to you is simple and known, yet it cannot be repeated too often: "As long as there is life, there is hope. Never, never give up!” Also, find your own support system, your own network of supportive family, friends and the therapeutic process that works for you. You don’t have to be alone, or to do it alone.
The holistic approach to health makes a lot of sense to me: We are spirits (intelligent life), who have bodies. Spirit has mind with thoughts and emotions, it has choices to make and changes to go through and it was born on this planet (with an intrinsic knowing that, after a number of years, it will also go through the passage of death). We are also social beings who need to belong, to create, to share, to relate and communicate, to understand and be understood, to love and be loved. We need all these aspects of our being to be functional and in some sort of harmony, unique to each person, so that we can thrive and we are able to feel an overall sense of well-being.
My personal process on the journey of reclaiming health and freedom was first to start learning about the body and its energies through studying Anatomy and Physiology, Reflexology and Reiki. After the main course in Reflexology I specialized in Spinal Reflexology and Reflexology for Pregnancy. Based on long-term experience and practice, I believe Reflexology works best for eliminating stress from the body and mind, as it brings an almost immediate sense of peace and relief, or even deep restful sleep. It also works well with all stages of pregnancy as it balances the hormones and the energies of the whole body. I continued my learning process related to the body and its energies by studying Reiki. Apart from Reiki treatments, I also teach, initiate and attune people to the Reiki energy and symbols. Reiki empowers one to self-heal, it grounds and centers one’s energies and it attunes the person to a deeper sense of self, to well being and harmony.
My next step was to understand how the mind functions in relation to human perception and behaviour. At this level, I have been working with Hypnosis and NLP. They go well together. Repetitive actions and repetitive language create specific behaviours and specific beliefs/thought patterns/organizing principles. We learn certain behaviours through thoughts and language and actions. Through a set of techniques and through increased awareness, also through working with the power of the subconscious and superconscious mind, Hypnosis and NLP facilitate the process of unlearning unnecessary or destructive behaviours and thought patterns that prevent us from living a full life.
Finally, to better understand the intricacies and complexity of the human soul, I started to focus my attention on Psychotherapy. The Relational Approach to Psychotherapy makes the most sense to me, as I view connection and the capacity to connect to another, as well as to those meaningful parts in ourselves, at the core of our existence. Everything is related, everything is interconnected. When our emotions are overwhelming, frazzled, when we are cut off from our emotions, when we are scared, anxious, fearful, depressed, when nothing works and nothing makes sense, when our sense of well being and identity feels threatened, when we live with trauma, when we cannot deal with feelings of loss or abandonment, when we cannot cope with change, or with making choices and decisions, then these are all signs that a disruption, or a rupture, a disconnection or a series of disconnections have formed in the internal makeup of our being. I believe Psychotherapy is the best approach to suture, to reconstruct, to reconnect these parts in ourselves and to help us create new, fulfilling meaning in our lives. As a psychotherapist I work both with individuals and with couples. As your psychotherapist I am your ally and I support you in your process of making sense of what is happening to you. I listen to you and to your story in a respectful, non-judgemental and compassionate way. I am here for you.
Having lived in three very different countries, I have a deep understanding and sensibility for people from all walks of life, for people faced with difficult changes, with loss and grief, for highly sensitive persons, for travellers, for people feeling "in between", and people who go through immigration processes.
In my personal life, I have been meditating since 1995 and this is something I am passionate about and I bring to my sessions, in short, peaceful, meditative and guided visualizations.
I am married and we live in Toronto, in the neighbourhood of High Park and Lake Ontario. True to its Wyandot (Huron) meaning, the “lake of shining waters” never ceases to amaze me in my walks.
My artistic outlet is writing poetry. I want to capture the moment, in its simplicity, complexity, or intensity. I want to capture my thoughts, my feelings. And so I write a poem.
